Antonio de Maria
Antonio De Maria is a visual artist whose work opens portals into the unconscious, weaving visions, memories, and ancestral echoes into a raw and intimate language. Born in Puglia, Italy, his practice draws deeply from the rich soil of his homeland, where identity is shaped through dialects, the salt of the sea, and the enduring ties of family.
Through drawing and painting, De Maria explores hidden organisms—enigmatic, hybrid figures that surface from the fog of dreams and collective memory. His process begins in quiet ritual: images born in the space between sleep and waking, first rendered in the immediacy of pen, then transformed through the slow alchemy of oil paint.
His work inhabits a liminal space he calls The Vestibule of Presences—a threshold where traumas, myths, and personal archetypes intertwine. Each figure becomes a fragment of a larger, unseen map: a visceral journey into forgotten pasts and timeless questions of belonging.
In De Maria’s universe, art is not a mere aesthetic pursuit—it is a radically sincere descent into the depths, where the visible and invisible, the personal and universal, continuously collide.
