Valentina Joiu
Valentina Joiu’s work Alma-río, part of her ongoing Unbound series, explores the body as something layered and constantly shifting, both exposed and protected at once. The series focuses on the female form as a site of emotional and material tension, where identity and transformation are never fixed.
Working mainly in oil, Joiu uses texture, light, and gesture to balance strength with vulnerability. A recurring industrial metal net appears throughout the work, acting as a visual symbol that moves between restraint and shelter, and pointing to the fragile boundaries of the body and mind. Closely tied to the theme Obscured Organisms, the work reflects on hidden structures and inner states that shape how the body is seen and experienced.
